Real cheese trading at the summer cheese markets
The Woerden cheese market is the only place in the Netherlands where cheese really is traded. It may not be on the scale as previously, but still the cheese market is a determining factor in the price of farmhouse cheese in the Netherlands. This makes the market in Woerden the only one in the Netherlands where the farmers themselves still come every Wednesday to sell their cheese. It’s a serious business!
Partly behind the scenes between the Arsenaal and the Hogewoerdlarge, large amounts of farmhouse cheese changes hands. But for those interested in the world of cheese trading, various activities are held at the Woerden Local Farmers Market on Saturday 30 July, 6 August and 13 August. For further information see VVV and the Streekmarkt.
